Brad Ngata is the creative director and co-owner (with partner Glenn Chaplin) of Australia’s edgiest ‘boutique’ salon brand, Brad Ngata Hair Direction, which comprises the 'down-town' original salon (established in 2001) positioned across two adjoining terraces and located in the coolest hub of Darlinghurst, and the 'up-town' city salon (due to open in September this year)at Sydney's newest premier entertainment precinct, 'The Ivy' The Brad Ngata Hair Direction brand has become synonymous with innovative hair styling and quality salon service, with close alignment with the media, fashion and advertising industries, and is recognised throughout the country and internationally.

Ngata’s most recent accolades include having won the hairdressing industry’s most highly prized title, ‘Australian Hairdresser of the Year’ for two consecutive years (both 2005 & 2006); the consumer media awards of ‘Sydney’s Best Hairdresser’ for two consecutive years (through the Sydney Morning Herald’s ‘The Sydney Magazine’ Readers Poll), and ‘Australian Hair Stylist of the Year’ at the 2004 Cleo Maybelline Australian Fashion Awards (awarded by the beauty and fashion industry). In 2005 he was included in the Sunday Telegraph magazine’s ‘Hot 100 List’ of Australia’s most influential style-setters and trends, and more recently in the 14th Edition 2007 Margaret Gee's Australian Celebrity Contact Book.

Brad Ngata has been established in the Australian hairdressing industry for over two decades and is held in high esteem by industry professionals and the media alike. After just one year of setting up his own salon business he won the coveted ‘Session Stylist of the Year’ award at the Australian Hair Fashion Awards (2003) conducted by The Australian Hairdressers Journal, after judging by that magazine’s publishers and a number of Australia’s leading beauty and fashion editors. This was followed up with winning the prestigious 2003 Hair Expo Editorial Award. He is the only Australian hairdresser to have won both major industry session awards in the one year which is testimony to his abilities at runway and fashion/beauty editorial styling.

Ngata is firmly in tune with the latest hair directions and techniques, and his adaptability ensures that he is constantly in demand for regular session styling with leading advertisers and editorial teams. His work has appeared in Australian glossy magazines such as Vogue Australia, Oyster, Yen, Sunday Magazine and Summer/Winter as well prestigious international glossies including UK Grazia, UK Harpers & Queen, UK GQ, UK Harpers Bazaar, British Vogue and Chinese Vogue. A trade media favourite, his work has been featured in major trade journals throughout the world including Australian Culture, The British Hairdressers Journal, Expression (Asia), Estetica, Creative Head (UK), Hattitude (Asia) and Hairs How (Russia). His work is further showcased with his tips and interviews appearing regularly in the beauty pages of virtually every Australian glossy.

Over the years Ngata has nurtured relationships with niche Australian designers and this has seen him directing the hair teams for a number of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week showings including the edgy labels Ksubi (formerly Tsubi), Akira Isogawa, Fleur Wood, Sarina Suriano (jeweller), Jozette, Gabriel Scarveli, Azzollini, Tina Kalivas, Jessie Hill, Life with Bird, Andysoma, Funkulo, Sass & Bide, Justine Taylor and Something Else. He has also directed parades for Rachel Hunter’s ‘Lola’ swimwear, Yeojin Bae, Zambesi, Billion Dollar Babes, and Wheels & Doll Baby, as well as at London Fashion Week (for Ksubi and Andysoma), and at Paris Fashion Week (2005) where he was hair director for the Australian designer showcase featuring Arika Isogawa, Sarina Suriano, Claude Maus, Mad Cortes and Camilla & Mark at the Australian Embassy in Paris. Extremely individual in his approach to hair direction, Ngata’s styling always demands the attention of runway photographers and fashion journalists, and is a contributing factor in ensuring high profile media coverage for the designers he works with.

Not one to betray the intimacies of his famous clientele, Brad’s reputation precedes him as a preferred stylist to many high profile celebrities both in Australia and overseas. In 2003 he scored enormous kudos as the chosen stylist of Hollywood actress, Portia de Rossi, during her Australian tour. He is also regular hairdresser for actress, Kate Beahan (co-star of Eric Bana in ‘Chopper’, Jodie Foster in ‘Flightplan’ and Nicholas Cage in the ‘Wicker Man’) and has worked with Australian actors Russell Crowe, Abbie Cornish and Emma Booth; film director, Baz Luhrmann; international models including Miranda Kerr, Alexandra Agnoston, Kristy Hinze and former Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins; International music sensations, Sneaky Sound System, Silverchair's Daniel Johns and The Divinyls' Chrissy Amphlett & Mark McEntee; and TV presenters including Erika Heynatz and Jodhi Meares. On the other side of the camera, Ngata has been featured on numerous TV programs including ‘Australia’s Next Top Model’ (Seasons 1 & 4), ‘Mornings with Kerri-Anne’, ‘Sixty Minutes’, ‘Backstage Pass’, ‘Sunrise’, Today, and, most recently, ‘Risking It All’ and the BBC documentary ‘Wanted Down Under’.

From 2002 - 2007 Ngata was crucial to the development of the KMS California brand in Australia and internationally, With Partner Glenn Chaplin as producer, Ngata conducted seminars and full-production shows for audiences from 50 to 500 in the U.S. cities of Las Vagas, Hollywood, Nashville, Baltimore, Los Angeles and New York; European cities of Paris (France) , Marbella, (Spain), London (U.K.), Frankfurt, (Germany) Helsinki, (Finland), Amsterdam, (Holland), and Oslo, (Norway); Asian cities of Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei : and every major Australian and New Zealand city.
